How Often Do You Need Lash Fills?

Short answer: every two to three weeks for most people.

Longer answer: it depends on your natural lash cycle, the style you are wearing, and how you treat your lashes between visits. Here is how to find your number.

Why fills exist at all

Your natural lashes grow, live, and shed on their own cycle, and they always have. You lose some every day and never notice, because new ones are coming in behind them.

An extension is attached to one natural lash. When that natural lash reaches the end of its cycle and sheds, the extension goes with it. That is normal and it is exactly how it should work.

A fill replaces what shed. Your artist removes any grown out or twisted extensions, then adds new ones to the fresh natural lashes that have come in since your last visit.

The two to three week rule

At about two weeks, most sets have lost enough to look a little thinner at the outer corners but still read as full. That is the sweet spot. There is plenty of structure left, the appointment is shorter, and the fill costs less.

At three weeks, more is gone. It takes longer to rebuild and costs more.

Past three to four weeks, there is often not enough left to fill. At that point you are looking at a new full set, which is a bigger appointment and a bigger number.

That is why fill pricing at Kat Eye Studios is set by how long you waited:

| Style | 1 week | 2 week | 3 week | |---|---|---|---| | Classic | $65 | $105 | $115 | | Hybrid | $75 | $110 | $115 | | Volume | $75 | $115 | $125 | | Mega volume | n/a | $120 | $150 |

Booking sooner is genuinely cheaper. It is one of the rare cases where the convenient thing and the affordable thing are the same thing.

What makes some people shed faster

A few things move your timeline:

  • Your natural cycle. Some people simply turn lashes over faster. Nothing to fix, just book accordingly.
  • Oil. Oil based cleansers, makeup removers, and heavy eye creams break down adhesive faster.
  • Sleeping face down. Hours of pressure and friction every night adds up.
  • Rubbing and picking. The fastest way to lose lashes, and the only one that can take a natural lash with it.
  • Skipping the daily cleanse. Buildup at the lash line loosens extensions.

If you are shedding faster than you expect, start with the cleanse and the pillow. Those two fix most of it.

Signs it is time to book

  • The outer corners look sparse
  • Some extensions are pointing the wrong way
  • You can see clear gaps at the lash line
  • You have started reaching for mascara again

Do not wait until the set looks bad. Book at the two week mark and it never gets there.

How to make fills go further

Cleanse daily with a lash safe cleanser, brush them with a spoolie in the morning, sleep on your back when you can, and keep oil away from the eye area. Simple, and it works.

There is more detail on all of it in how long eyelash extensions really last.

Should you just get a new full set instead?

Sometimes, yes. If you have gone more than a month, or you want to change style entirely, or your set has grown out unevenly, starting fresh gives a cleaner result than patching.

Kat will tell you straight which one you need when she looks at your lashes. If a fill will not do the job, you will hear that before she starts, not after.

Frequently asked questions

Can I book a fill with a different lash artist? You can, but a fill built on someone else's work takes longer and results vary. If you are coming from another studio, book a full set or ask about a removal first.

What is the shortest I can go between fills? One week fills exist and some people love them, especially if they want the set to look brand new all the time. They are the least expensive appointment on the menu.

How long does a fill take? About an hour for classic, up to an hour and a half for a three week volume or mega volume fill.
